From October 3, 1948, until March 26, 1950, Blackstone, the Magic Detective, a 15-minute radio series based on the Blackstone, Master Magician comic book series by Elmer Cecil Stoner, aired at 2:45pm, on Sunday afternoons on the Mutual Broadcasting System. The show normally opened with Blackstone (Ed Jerome) and his assistant Rhoda Brent (Fran Carlon) talking to their mate, either Don Hancock or Alan Kent (played in-character as themselves by the announcers of the episodes) or John Carlon (Ted Osborne). The mystery story was dramatized as a flashback when a conversation of a previous adventure of Blackstone's would come up.
